This site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Here is what we have done, what we know is imperfect, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.

What we have done.

Structure

One main heading per page, headings in order with no levels skipped, a skip link to the content, and a single main landmark.

1.2

Contrast

Every text and background pair on this site has been measured. The lowest ratio in use is 4.93 to 1, against a 4.5 requirement for body text.

1.3

Keyboard

Every link, button and control is reachable by keyboard with a visible focus outline. Nothing depends on hovering or on a mouse.

1.4

Type size

No text on this site is smaller than about 11 pixels, including captions and the fine print.

1.5

Screen readers

Form fields have real labels rather than placeholder text alone, and the worksheets announce their results as the figures change.

Touch

Tap targets meet the 44 pixel minimum, and the layout carries no sideways scrolling down to a 320 pixel screen.

§ 02Known limits

Where we fall short.

2.1

The worksheets need JavaScript

With scripts turned off, the explanation and the method are still readable, but the sliders will not calculate.

2.2

Fonts load from a third party

Typefaces are served by Google Fonts. If that request fails, the site falls back to system fonts and remains fully readable.

2.3

We have not run a formal audit

Everything above was measured by us. An independent audit has not yet been done, and we would rather say so than imply one.
